Newport VFW Post 406 held the Wreaths Across America ceremony and laying of wreaths along with other local organizations on December 14 2024 at the Oliver Hazard Perry burial plot at Island Cemetery. This is to honor deceased service members from all military branches as well as those who remain Missing in Action. Wreaths were then distributed to community members to place on Veteran graves. This is an event that by design teaches children to understand and honor those who serve our Nation. It is a pleasure to see so many families, Scouting groups and other youth groups and military veterans’ organizations participate in this event year after year.
