VFW Post 496 Newport once again prepares for Wreaths Across America. As in past years, our effort will be centered at Island Cemetery (30 Warner Street). A combined effort of four local organizations – The American Heritage Girls Troop 0619, Island Cemetery, the Surface Navy Association Newport Chapter, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406 (Newport) is leading the Newport Community in executing this event. We are also thankful for additional groups that have already committed to providing their support.

The tasks in this event are simple but have great meaning:

We remember and honor Veterans who served to defend the freedoms we hold dear

We use this event to teach our youth the importance of patriotism and community.

We serve our community.

Please help us accomplish this mission by doing the following:

Spread News of the Event – Please let others know by relaying this message and the attached flyer.

Sponsor a Wreath – Wreaths can be sponsored for $17/ea, and can be designated to be placed on the grave of a specific Veteran or for general placement. Please follow the link on the flyer to the Wreaths Across America page to sponsor a wreath.

Participate in a Clean-Up of the Cemetery. Volunteers will gather at Island Cemetery on Saturday, December 6th, 9 AM-12 PM, to help with fall cleanup. Please bring your own leaf rake and gloves.

Attend the Wreaths Across America Ceremony – Join us for a wonderful ceremony in Island Cemetery on Saturday, December 13th, at 12 PM, where we honor all who have served our Nation. Wreaths will be distributed immediately after for placement in the cemetery.
