1 November 2024
My Fellow Members-
In commemoration of Veterans’ Day 2024 let us renew our mission to be advocates for our fellow Veterans.
Post 406 truly leads the way in recognizing the lives and service of our departed Veterans as we routinely flag each Veteran’s grave in Island Cemetery for both Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day. The simple act of flagging a grave and remembering our fallen brothers and sisters has attracted new members to our post and strengthened the post’s presence within the greater Newport Community.
This year, on 9 November, Post 406 will again flag Veterans’ graves in Island Cemetery and renew a post tradition of a Remembrance Service in Belmont Chapel within Island Cemetery, followed by guided tours of Veterans’ graves within Island Cemetery.
9 November:
0900: Flagging Veterans’ Graves, meet at Belmont Chapel
1200: Remembrance Service- Belmont Chapel
1300: Guided Tours of Veterans’ Graves in Island Cemetery
(More information may be found at: www.vfw406ri.org)
I ask that you avail yourself to the events of 9 November; volunteer to help execute the event, bring family and friends, support your post, remember the fallen and appreciate the living.
This year has been a terrific year for our post in service to veterans of Newport County; terrific because of you. Keep the momentum rolling!
I remain Your Most Obedient Servant,
Anselm T.W. Richards
Commander VFW Post 406
