Newport VFW Post 406 led a group of dedicated post and community members at Island Cemetery to place American flags on Veteran graves in advance of Memorial Day as per custom. We placed almost 1000 flags including 5 Medal of Honor recipients who are buried in Newport. This event is great for families, especially as a way to help our children understand the importance of honoring those who have given their lives for our country.
