Newport VFW Post 406 members along with family and community members gathered at Island Cemetery to retrieve the American flags that had been placed on Veteran graves in advance of Memorial Day. We retrieved the almost 1000 flags including 5 Medal of Honor recipients who are buried in Newport from the 6 local cemeteries. The flags will be assessed for condition and stored for placement again in the fall in advance of Veteran’s Day.
