On October 19, 2026, Kevin Cardoza, U.S. Coast Guard and retired Newport Police Department, on behalf of the officers and members of VFW Post 406, Newport, Rhode Island, and the countless family members and friends of the Murphy family, placed a VFW grave marker, an American flag, and a photograph of PVT. Michael G. Murphy at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in France.
PVT. Murphy, a son of Newport, Rhode Island, made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation during World War I, on October 30, 1918. His courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
This tribute serves as a lasting reminder that, regardless of how many years pass or how far from home a service member rests, those who gave their lives for our freedom will always be remembered.
VFW Post 406 extends its sincere gratitude to Kevin Cardoza for ensuring that PVT. Michael G. Murphy continues to receive the honor, dignity, and remembrance he so richly deserves. We are grateful for Kevin’s continued selfless service to his nation and community.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
