“The Christmas Truce of World War I – December 1914”

The members of VFW Post 406, Newport, invite the public to a special presentation, Wednesday, December 14th on Soldiers from opposing sides halted combat actions for a brief period during World War I and came together to sing Christmas Carols, exchange goods, and celebrate the holiday. 

Professor David Kohen, the Captain Tracy Barrett Kittredge Scholar of War Studies and Maritime History at the U.S. Naval War College, will present a lecture; “The Christmas Truce of World War I – December 1914″

David Kohen received his Ph.D. from King’s College London, and served as the founding director of the John B. Hattendorf Center for Maritime Historical Research and as executive director of the Naval War College Museum. He is also a retired U.S. Naval Officer.

The lecture will be held at the Newport Elks Lodge 104, 141 Pelham St, Newport RI and is open to all to attend.

Please arrive at 5:00 pm. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided as well as access to a cash bar.  Lecture begins promptly at 6:00 PM.

Suggested donation of $10.00 supports local Veteran programs and activities.
