On Saturday, September 10, 2022, members of VFW Post 406 joined the Newport County Council of the Navy League in welcoming incoming international students attending the Naval Command College (NCC) and the Naval Staff College (NSC) at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI.
Over 100 students, representing 65 allied countries, their families as well as instructors, and supporters gathered at Glen Park in Portsmouth for a traditional summer cookout complete with food, beer, and games.
Elected officials from Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth joined Navy League leaders in welcoming these international officers as they begin their academic curriculum at the U.S. Naval War College.
VFW members took charge of the grill and kitchen at Glen Park and provided all aspects of food service for this special group. A special thank you to Ginny Hanson of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 15, Rhode Island, and Coleen Turner, wife of Post Senior Vice Commander Mark Turner who also contributed greatly to the day!
VFW Post 406 is grateful to engage and partner with any Veteran organizations that support current Military members, Veterans, and their families.
